2 AP students set to create history

Hyderabad: Braving strong icy winds, Malavath Purna and Sadhanapalli Anand Kumar from the AP Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutes (APSWREI) are all set to create history as they have been on the way to scale Mount Everest on Sunday morning. According to reports, they are just 548 mts away from the summit.

“At around 1.30 pm on Saturday, they reached Camp 3, which is at a height of 8,300 mt, after a painstaking trekking from Camp 2 (7,800 mt). Now they have to trek through the Death Zone, where they need to be utmost cautious because of the oxygen that they get is less than 15 per cent. They need to depend on oxygen cylinders they carry. We hope that they would reach the summit (8,848 mt) by Sunday morning,” Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary of APSWERIS, informed.

Once they make through this treacherous path, they are sure to hoist the Indian flag over the peak. The youngsters’ feat is being closely watched by officials and their classmates along with a host of others.

Purna at 13 years and 11 months is the youngest mountaineer and according to officials, she has been showing outstanding bravado from day one.

“Through her adventure, Purna has been eager to prove the world that she is no way inferior to any challenging bloke. She makes us forget that she is the youngest female scaling the unapproachable Mt Everest,” Praveen Kumar said.

Sadhanapalli Anand Kumar, aged 18, is rather cool and composed and has been cautiously scaling the peak. Purna is studying Class IX in APSWR School at Thadwai in Nizamabad district. Her parents Laxmi and Devidas are agricultural labourers working at Pakhala village of Sirikonda mandal. Anand Kumar is studying junior Inter Bi PC at Annapureddypalli of Chandrugonda mandal. His father Kondala Rao works in a cycle shop.
